our why
Regrow began as a deeply personal journey, one shaped by grief, awakening, curiosity, and the desire to understand what it truly means to be human.
After losing her dad, David McDougall, Alison witnessed firsthand how the healthcare system failed him. As Gabor Maté teaches, addiction is not a choice but a coping mechanism for deep, unaddressed emotional pain. Yet instead of being met with compassion for his suffering, he was met with judgement. Because his drinking was visible, the pain beneath it was overlooked, and the care he needed simply wasn’t there.
Through this loss, Alison realised a hard truth:
our systems are not designed to support whole human beings: the emotional, relational, intellectual and spiritual aspects that shape who we are.
Around the same time, Alison realised she didn’t fit into the life she had created, one shaped by expectations, productivity culture, and ideas of success that never felt true. A psilocybin journey four years ago cracked something open, revealing that she had the power to choose differently.
So she stepped inward.
Through somatic work, breathwork, journaling, trauma understanding, nature connection, creativity, and the teachings of Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar’s SPIRE wholebeing model, Alison began rebuilding her life from the inside out. For the first time, she understood what it actually means to be human and what it takes to live a full and fulfilling life.
It’s never too late to begin again.
Over time, her personal healing grew into something bigger. On a small island in Orkney, Alison began creating spaces, programs, and community experiences that brought people together to reconnect with themselves and each other. In just 18 months, these offerings welcomed over 2,300 attendances; a clear sign that people are longing for real connection, wholebeing support, and environments where they can be fully themselves.
Regrow is the outcome of all of this:
the challenging, beautiful, always-evolving journey of learning, unlearning, growing, grieving, and returning to authenticity.
We believe:
- No human is exempt from suffering, and no one should go through it alone.
- Healing becomes possible when we create the right environments.
- Every person deserves support for the whole human:
spiritual, physical, intellectual, relational, and emotional. - Our systems may not be able to provide this, but communities can.
Regrow exists to make wholebeing accessible, human, and community-rooted.
We create the spaces and programs that support real, lasting transformation, the kind that begins with the self and expands outward into our relationships, our communities, and how we care for this beautiful planet.
